Do you know when you O?

August 25th, 2008 by Wendy Young | No Comments | Filed in Sex and Relationships, Women's Health

By the I mean ovulate you gutter-minded girls!

The female portions of the childhood and high school health lessons seemed so easy! Every girl has a 4 week cycle. Rinse, repeat. And we were all taught how not to get pregnant. Many of us were given, or chose, to take The Pill, magic in blue, which ensured that we actually did follow that simple, easy, cookie cutter 4 week plan.

But fast forward a bit. What happens when you’re all grown up and you want to get pregnant? Suddenly, for many of us, it’s not that simple! Our bodies scoff at a four week timeline, guffaw at regularity, belly laugh at the sight of the plastic stick.

Reading the fantastic book Taking Charge of your Fertility was a huge wake-up call. I found myself grousing repeatedly “Why didn’t they tell us that in high school?” Temperatures, CM, and positions, oh my!

If you find yourself staring at the wrong end of a circled I’ll-have-my-first-child-by-then date with no baby in your arms, take this opportunity to learn more about your body and your fertility. Truly take charge of it. Sometimes being armed with simple knowledge about something that is truly and completely yours - your body - makes the difference.

Can you have too much sex?

August 10th, 2008 by Wendy Young | 1 Comment | Filed in Sex and Relationships

Apparently, you can! Or at least you can have too much sex, too fast.

I looked into the matter, only to find that too much sex in a short period of time can do a lot more than bench you for a couple of days. It can, in fact, put you out of commission for a while if you’re not smart about your sex play.

From rug burns to urinary-tract infections, lower back pain to serious injury, you can experience a variety of painful problems if you don’t pace yourselves. Enjoy your time and take it slow. If you get hurt, no one is having any fun!

Going Off The Pill - What Does It Do?

April 17th, 2008 by yeahtips | No Comments | Filed in Sex and Relationships

Many women utilize “The Pill” as their primary source of birth control–especially women in long-term relationships. Everyone knows birth control pills carry some risk of side effects, but what about when you go off the pill? What if your prescription isn’t filled in time or you’re looking to start a family?

The side effects of going off of the pill have not been readily studied. However, side effects are possible including:

  • Delayed period
  • Painful periods
  • Reverting back to an irregular period (if it was this way prior to taking the pill)
  • Swollen, tender breasts
  • Acne
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Nausea
  • Mood swings
  • Lethargy

What’s funny about these side effects is that they are very similar to those incurred during pregnancy. If your period is late by more than a week or you’re feeling abnormal after quitting the pill, contact your doctor.
