Water - Are you Getting enough?
August 14th, 2008 by Kathy Hester | Filed under Weight Loss.
If you are, you’ll have more energy than someone who isn’t. If you let yourself get dehydrated, your body reacts and causes you to feel more tired. There is a debate about just how much water you need a day, but 8 glasses a day is a good goal to shoot for. And yes, other drinks count towards your 8. Just remember that caffeine is a diuretic and will dehydrate you instead of hydrating you like water will. So watch your coffee and Coke intake!
Water can also aid you in your weight loss plan. First, if you drink water instead of high calorie drinks, that’s a huge calorie savings right there. Plus, if you drink a glass of water right before a meal, you’ll feel fuller and tend to eat less.
With our busy lives it’s easy to overlook drinking enough water. Or maybe you just don’t like the taste of it. Either way here are a few tips to help you:
- Buy a water bottle that you keep by you all day. You’ll get into the habit because it’s always right there.
- Use a filtration device, like a Brita pitcher to eliminate chlorine from tap water. Filtered water tastes much better!
- Buy a glass pitcher to keep in the fridge. Many people drink more water if it is already cold, especially in the summer.
- Lemon and cucumber slices add a new fresh taste to your water as well as fresh herbs, like mint or lemon verbena. You can try adding some savory herbs like lime thyme or lemon basil to shake things up.
- Make it a habit to take a drink of water before you leave your desk and when you return. You’ll find yourself getting up just to get more water!
- Eat some watermelon or other juicy fruit. You can eat your water too!
