Ki’s Restaurant
August 12th, 2008 by inanoyster | Filed under Nutrition.Hi everyone! My name is Pearl and I’m a contributing writer to Yeahtips! I hope to share my knowledge and experiences with everyone, and am looking forward to learning from all of you! =) You can dig up more dirt about me under the “About Us” page.
As for my first post, I wanted to focus on the busy lifestyles that we lead and hope to inspire and encourage readers to continue to take care of our bodies and our health, while adhering to our schedules.
Thanks for reading!

We all know that many nutritionists advocate for whole, natural, fresh foods. As good as that fast-food hamburger may taste, we all know that it’s loaded with sodium, artery-clogging fat and preservatives. So, to take responsibility for our health, we head off to the supermarket where we are greeted with beautiful vegetables, shiny fruit, lean meats, fresh seafood and as-natural-as-you-can-get whole grains. We buy to our heart’s content, and stash them in our refrigerator, where they… sit. And sit. And do a little dance! Just kidding… they sit.
Hello? We live in an extremely busy and fluid society and it’s difficult to find the time to slow down and head off to the kitchen and prepare fabulous meals. Regardless of whether you’re in school, work full-time, or take care of your family, it’s tempting to just order pizza after a taxing day. And darn it, sometimes we just want to go out to a nice restaurant and enjoy a beautiful dinner with a glass (or two) of wine - cause let’s face it, we deserve it. So what’s a modern girl to do, when she wants to have her cake and (guiltlessly) eat it, too?
I am always so excited when I encounter restaurants and markets that offer freshly-prepared, healthy foods from local, organic farms. I don’t know about you, but I like being able to recognize my food before I eat it; I want to be able to tell that the lavishly displayed plate in front of me actually contains grilled chicken, rather than closing my eyes and hoping that whatever morsel I’m currently chewing is, in fact, what it says on the menu. I feel safer knowing that the medium-rare steak in front of me is from grass-fed cows from an organic farm, rather than just hoping that our nation’s food inspection didn’t fail us. I’m happier that the pancakes, french toast and accompanying bread are made from whole wheat flour and that fresh fruit is always an option for an accompanying side.
Enough of the dreaming - is there such a restaurant in San Diego? Why, yes lovelies - there is!
One of my favorite restaurants in North County San Diego is Ki’s Restaurant, located across the beach in Cardiff, CA. Ki’s has been around since 1994, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and delicious smoothies to all patrons, from crack-of-dawn native surfers to out-of-town tourists. Ki’s is an elegant, beach-casual restaurant with a smoothie bar downstairs (also where diners pick up take-out) and an expansive deck with gorgeous ocean views upstairs. The food is fresh, nutritious and absolutely scrumptious, and you really do feel energized after eating there. They even have a Kids Menu, with such delicacies as Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Jack Cheese on Whole Wheat Bread) and their Whole-Wheat Linguini with Marinara.
Have you been there before? Do you know of other great healthy restaurants? Share with me! I’d love to hear from you.
And if you haven’t been to Ki’s yet… what are you waiting for?
