I’m not usually one to sit here and outright promote specific brand names or products. But today, I feel the need to share with you some of my favorite soul-satisfying things.
First, one of my all-time favorites comes from the folks over at Juniper Ridge. I don’t even know how I stumbled upon them, but so, so glad I did. Their White Sage & Wild Mint Tea is to die for! It has such a natural, minty flavor. All of the products at Juniper Ridge are wildcrafted (harvested from wild plants) from the mountains and deserts of the West.
Another fabulous product from Juniper Ridge is the Desert Pinon Incense. It makes you feel like you’re sitting outside under the stars by a raging campfire. And it’s not made with charcoal or potassium nitrate-just good, old-fashioned leaves, wood and resins from the mountains and deserts.

Another one of my favorite goodies comes from Susan’s Soaps & More. I’m absolutely crazy for the Lavender Rosemary All-Natural Soap. It really is “all-natural”–not made with any kind of artificial fragrances, preservatives or colorants, animal fats or animal testing. The smell of lavender is very soothing and relaxing, while the pungent odor of rosemary wakes up your senses. I love this soap!

And lastly, another bathtime favorite can be found at Magic Hands Workshop. Every soap, body scrub and body lotion I’ve had from here has been great! I think my favorite so far, though, is the Mint Sugar Cookie Body Polish. It smells like fresh-baked sugar cookies in the shower and makes my skin feel so soft and smooth after a good scrub.

ENJOY!
Everyone wants to be happy but not everyone knows how to get there. Just like you, I have my down times, too. But sometimes we need to be reminded of how precious our lives really are and if we do a few simple things every day, we can help ourselves achieve a higher level of happiness and contentment.
The first thing to remember is that we are responsible for our own happiness. I cannot stress this enough. Circumstances and variables around you may change, but you are ultimately in control of your own happiness. This cannot be decided for you by anyone else. So here are a few tips that may help you find a little more peace in your life:
- Be grateful. Many times we tend to get too comfortable with people and our surroundings and end up taking them for granted. Take a few moments in silence to appreciate all that is around you. This includes special places and amazing people. Be grateful for these things in your life and acknowledge your appreciation.
- Give back and pay it forward. Charity is one of the most rewarding gifts a person can give. By offering something of yourself, whether it be in the form of a monetary gift or the gift of your time and service, helping someone who needs it more will give you a feeling of gratitude for what you already have and the warm satisfaction in knowing that you changed the life of someone else through your love.
- Stop comparing. Stop comparing your life to that of someone else. Let go of what you may not have and be thankful for what you do have. Think…do I have my health, good family, kind friends, a rewarding job? You may not always get everything you want in life, but try to focus on everything that is great in your life.
- Value nature. Sometimes when life gets a little too hectic, it helps me to get out into nature. Take a walk and simply appreciate all the colors and smells, the feel of the wind on your neck or the quiet singing of birds. Literally, stop and smell the flowers.
- Thank those you have helped you. Just by saying those two little words, “thank you,” you can brighten someone else’s day. Maybe they were having a down day or feeling taken for granted. Being thankful for even the littlest things can help you find fulfillment and happiness.
- Forgive. You’re not perfect. But then again, neither is anyone else. Accept that you have flaws and so does everyone else. Forgive and let it go.
What do you do to find happiness in your life?

Who doesn’t like to be pampered after a hard day’s work? If you’re like me, I’ll take any chance I get in a day to enjoy simple pleasures like a morning mocha, some fresh cut flowers from the farmer’s market or a mini facial from the local salon.
But what if you’re a little short on cash this week? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered with a few simple do-it-yourself spa treatments:
Simple Citus Facial

2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon fresh apple puree or apple sauce
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

Papaya Skin Rejuvenation-Skin Refresher (from Nob Hill Spa in San Francisco)
Directions:
Wash your face thoroughly with warm soapy water. Then, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Mash 1/2 of a papaya. Place pot beneath your face and hold a towel over your head. Health Care Reform is an important topic when it comes to women’s health care . All this week CNN has a series called Health Care Checkup in which senior medical correspondent Elizabeth Cohen will address different topic each day that will focus on the different aspects on the current health care reform bill.
Women are likely to be impacted in a variety of different ways if Obama’s health care reform passes. A report on HealthReform.gov discusses how the current health care system adversely affects women. According to this report, women are affected in the following ways:
- They are more likely to have overall higher heath care costs than men. This is due to a variety of reasons such as increased visits to providers for reproductive health care and the likelihood that women report health issues more than men.
- They are less likely to be eligible for employer based coverage than their male counterparts, often because they are not full-time employees.
- Inadequate benefits and higher costs make individual insurance coverage an unreliable source for women. This is due to the way individual premiums are calculated due to the applicant’s existing health problems, age and gender. Besides the cost factor, basic maternity care is deficient in a majority of individual market health insurance policies according to the National Women’s Law Center.
- Women are more likely to find it more difficult to access health care than men, often due to increased costs.
To date, Elizabeth Cohen has focused on two different topics facing health care reform. Below are the links to the previous topics:
