Do you know when you O?
By the I mean ovulate you gutter-minded girls!
The female portions of the childhood and high school health lessons seemed so easy! Every girl has a 4 week cycle. Rinse, repeat. And we were all taught how not to get pregnant. Many of us were given, or chose, to take The Pill, magic in blue, which ensured that we actually did follow that simple, easy, cookie cutter 4 week plan.
But fast forward a bit. What happens when you’re all grown up and you want to get pregnant? Suddenly, for many of us, it’s not that simple! Our bodies scoff at a four week timeline, guffaw at regularity, belly laugh at the sight of the plastic stick.
Reading the fantastic book Taking Charge of your Fertility was a huge wake-up call. I found myself grousing repeatedly “Why didn’t they tell us that in high school?” Temperatures, CM, and positions, oh my!
If you find yourself staring at the wrong end of a circled I’ll-have-my-first-child-by-then date with no baby in your arms, take this opportunity to learn more about your body and your fertility. Truly take charge of it. Sometimes being armed with simple knowledge about something that is truly and completely yours – your body – makes the difference.
